About Roy MacDowell

Roy MacDowell founded The MacDowell Company in 1966. For more than four decades, the construction and landscape design firm has served the needs of business, individual, and institutional customers throughout New England. The company has received recent Best of Boston awards from both Boston Magazine and Boston Home magazine. Roy MacDowell and his team take pride in their ability to direct large-scale development projects from concept to reality with the highest possible quality of execution and attention to detail.

Since 2009, he has served, Baystone Development, another Massachusetts firm as a principal responsible for multiple levels of design oversight and vision implementation. Baystone is the recipient of awards from the Massachusetts Historical Commission, the American Institute of Architects’ New York chapter, the Boston Society of Architects, and other organizations. Roy MacDowell and his family have supported numerous nonprofits in Massachusetts, including Babson College, The Rivers School, The Meadowbrook School of Weston, and other organizations.

Additionally, his 2002 purchase of Deaconess-Waltham Hospital rescued the financially struggling institution. Babson College has named a playing field in honor of Roy MacDowell and his family, and The Rivers School hosts the MacDowell Library, as well as an athletic field and arena named in his honor. The Meadowbrook School of Weston has also named The MacDowell Center after the family.
